I know it might sound silly, but I run into a lot of bizarre etiquette questions, and I love being able to find the answers there. Ray is currently publishing a series called SP's "Bill of Rites". I just read the eighth installment, and I, once again, found it very fascinating (you can read it here).
One rule, just in case you were wondering, is this:
"A man walks behind a woman going up the stairs, in front of her on the way down."
Who knew? I sure didn't, but, hey, if you didn't before, now you know too.

There are actually reasons for real etiquette. For example, if the lady should stumble coming down, the gentleman is in front to catch her and the opposite going up. See?
Yes! It makes so much sense. I think that's why I like it!
