Love Poem for a Son
John Stone
I begin with you,
not red and wailing,
but small and round
in the upper tube,
where X met Y and multiplied,
in the soft cave of the uterus
where you caught and hung;
when notochord was spinal cord
and gut was gut forever;
when eyes were large,
as they still are;
and the heart was gathering
blood like flowers;
and what you started with
had to do.
You curled and uncurled
before the first breath
of anything but fluid,
and the thump of the mother
heart gave motion and all magic,
till you moved out like a little boat,
and came to me, red and weeping,
as even now you sometimes do.
I end with you.

Cool Blog! I love the poetry you select!
I wanted to share this with you, I'm not sure if you knew this or though. When God creates the world in Genesis he speaks. The verse from Genesis 1:3 is:
Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
In latin it is:
Dixitque Deus : Fiat lux. Et facta est lux.
When the angel Gabriel visits Mary telling her that she will be the Mother of God, in Luke 1:38 it says:
Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word."
In latin it is:
Dixit autem Maria : Ecce ancilla Domini : fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum.
The word "Fiat" is the same word God uses the create everything and the same word Mary uses to participate in the re-creation of everything!
I thought that is really cool, I heard it the other day.
Here is my blog if you want to check it out:
